Acute Stroke & Neurological Emergency Care

Time-Critical Stroke and Neurological Emergency Management

The Emergency Department provides a structured pathway for acute stroke care in Kochi, recognising that early diagnosis and treatment can significantly influence neurological outcomes. Patients presenting with sudden weakness, facial deviation, speech difficulty, loss of balance or other suspected stroke symptoms undergo rapid clinical evaluation and urgent neuroimaging.

Eligible patients may be assessed for intravenous thrombolysis or mechanical thrombectomy based on the type of stroke, time of symptom onset, imaging findings and clinical suitability. Emergency physicians coordinate immediately with neurologists, interventional specialists, radiologists, anaesthesiologists and critical care teams to minimise delays.

The department also manages neurological emergencies including seizures, status epilepticus, altered consciousness, severe headache, traumatic brain injury and acute neurological deterioration, with access to advanced imaging and intensive monitoring when required.
