Advanced Bedside & Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

Critical Care Procedures Performed at the Bedside

Critically ill patients often require diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that must be performed rapidly without unnecessary transfer outside the ICU. Apollo Adlux Hospital's intensivists are trained in a wide range of advanced bedside critical care procedures.

Central Venous & Arterial Catheterisation

Central venous catheterisation provides secure vascular access for administration of medications, vasopressors and other therapies, while arterial line placement enables continuous blood pressure monitoring and repeated arterial blood sampling. Ultrasound guidance may be used to improve accuracy and support safe vascular access.

Tracheostomy

Selected patients requiring prolonged airway and ventilatory support may undergo tracheostomy. The procedure can facilitate long-term airway management, respiratory care and gradual weaning from mechanical ventilation where appropriate.

Thoracentesis & Paracentesis

Thoracentesis may be performed to remove fluid from around the lungs for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, while paracentesis is used to drain abdominal fluid in selected patients with significant ascites.

These procedures may be performed under ultrasound guidance depending on clinical requirements.

Bronchoscopy

Bedside bronchoscopy can assist in evaluating and managing airway obstruction, retained secretions, mucus plugging, bleeding and selected pulmonary conditions in critically ill patients.

Point-of-Care Ultrasound – POCUS

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is used extensively in modern critical care for rapid bedside assessment of cardiac function, lung pathology, fluid status and other physiological abnormalities.

POCUS also supports procedural guidance for vascular access, fluid drainage and selected bedside interventions, helping intensivists make faster clinical decisions without unnecessary delay.
