Advanced Haemodynamic, Neurological & Cardiac Monitoring

Precise and continuous monitoring is fundamental to the management of critically ill patients. The Critical Care Medicine Department at Apollo Adlux Hospital uses advanced multimodal monitoring systems to assess cardiovascular, neurological and respiratory status in real time and identify physiological deterioration at the earliest possible stage.

Continuous Haemodynamic Monitoring

Patients with circulatory failure, shock, severe infection, major cardiac disease or post-operative instability may require advanced haemodynamic monitoring. This can include continuous arterial blood pressure monitoring, central venous pressure monitoring and, in selected patients, pulmonary artery pressure assessment.

These monitoring systems provide intensivists with detailed information regarding blood pressure, circulating volume, cardiac performance and tissue perfusion, helping guide fluid therapy, vasopressor support and other critical care interventions.

Advanced Neurological Monitoring

For patients with severe neurological illness or injury, the ICU provides specialised neurological monitoring where clinically indicated. This may include intracranial pressure monitoring (ICP), electroencephalography (EEG), cerebral oxygenation monitoring, SjVO₂ assessment and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS).

Such monitoring can be valuable in patients with traumatic brain injury, severe stroke, seizures, altered consciousness and other neurological emergencies by helping the critical care and neurology teams assess cerebral function and oxygen delivery.

Advanced Cardiac Monitoring

Patients with cardiac instability can undergo continuous cardiovascular assessment supported by transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardiac output monitoring when required. These technologies allow the critical care team to assess heart function, fluid responsiveness and circulatory status at the bedside, supporting rapid treatment decisions in conditions such as cardiogenic shock, severe heart failure and post-operative cardiac instability.
