Comprehensive Respiratory, Renal and Circulatory Support

Apollo Adlux Hospital provides advanced life-support services in Kochi for critically ill patients whose lungs, kidneys, heart or circulatory system require temporary medical support while the underlying condition is treated.

Mechanical Ventilation

Patients with severe respiratory failure, ARDS, pneumonia, neurological impairment or other conditions affecting breathing may require invasive or non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Non-invasive ventilation can provide respiratory support through a mask in appropriately selected patients, while invasive mechanical ventilation is used when airway protection or more advanced respiratory support is required. Ventilator settings are continuously adjusted according to the patient's clinical condition, blood gases and lung mechanics.

CRRT, SLED & Plasma Exchange

Patients with severe acute kidney injury, fluid overload, major electrolyte disturbances or haemodynamic instability may require renal replacement therapy.

Apollo Adlux Hospital provides Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) for critically ill patients requiring gradual and continuous fluid and toxin removal, as well as Sustained Low-Efficiency Dialysis (SLED) where clinically appropriate.

Plasma Exchange (PLEX) may also be used in selected immune-mediated, neurological, haematological and other critical illnesses where removal and replacement of plasma is clinically indicated.

ECMO & Advanced Extracorporeal Support

For selected patients with severe heart or lung failure that does not respond adequately to conventional therapy, the department provides access to Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

VV-ECMO may provide temporary respiratory support in severe respiratory failure, while VA-ECMO may support both the heart and lungs in selected patients with profound cardiovascular collapse or cardiogenic shock. Other extracorporeal blood purification techniques may be used according to the clinical condition and organ-support requirements.

IABP, Vasopressors & Inotropic Support

Patients with circulatory failure or cardiogenic shock may require medications such as vasopressors and inotropes to maintain adequate blood pressure, cardiac output and organ perfusion. In selected cardiac patients, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) support may be used as part of advanced haemodynamic management based on specialist assessment.
