Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting (PCI)

Restoring Blood Flow Without Open Surgery: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), commonly known as coronary angioplasty, is a minimally invasive procedure used to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries. A small balloon is inflated at the site of the blockage, and a stent is placed to keep the artery open and restore blood flow to the heart muscle.

PCI helps relieve chest pain, improve heart function, reduce symptoms and lower the risk of future cardiac events. Most patients recover quickly and can return to normal activities sooner than with conventional surgery.

PCI may be recommended for:

  • Stable angina
  • Acute coronary syndrome
  • Heart attack
  • Significant coronary artery narrowing
  • Previously blocked coronary stents
