Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)

Restoring Healthy Blood Flow to the Heart

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the most effective surgical treatments for severe coronary artery disease. The procedure creates a new pathway for blood to reach the heart muscle by bypassing blocked or narrowed coronary arteries using healthy blood vessels taken from another part of the body.

CABG is recommended for patients with multiple blocked arteries, left main coronary artery disease, diabetes with complex coronary disease, or when angioplasty is unlikely to provide long-term benefits.

Our cardiac surgeons perform both on-pump CABG, where a heart-lung machine temporarily supports circulation during surgery, and off-pump CABG, where bypass surgery is performed on the beating heart without the heart-lung machine. The choice of technique depends on the patient's anatomy, disease severity and overall clinical condition.

CABG may help patients with:

  • Multiple coronary artery blockages
  • Recurrent angina
  • Left main coronary artery disease
  • Complex coronary artery disease
  • Failed previous angioplasty or stenting
