Removing Diseased Pleural Tissue

Decortication removes thickened or infected tissue surrounding the lung that restricts normal lung expansion.

The procedure is commonly performed for empyema, chronic pleural infections and trapped lung. Depending on disease severity, surgery may be performed through VATS or an open approach.
