The department provides laparoscopic oesophageal surgery in Kochi for selected benign and malignant conditions affecting the oesophagus and gastro-oesophageal junction. Minimally invasive techniques may be used for oesophageal cancer surgery, hiatus hernia repair and selected reflux-related conditions depending on clinical evaluation.

For hiatus hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease, laparoscopic surgery can restore normal anatomy at the junction between the oesophagus and stomach and reinforce the anti-reflux mechanism where indicated. Patients with oesophageal cancer undergo detailed staging and multidisciplinary evaluation before surgery to determine the most appropriate treatment pathway.
