The pulmonology team provides risk assessment for lung cancer, evaluation of pulmonary nodules and coordination of advanced diagnostic procedures when abnormalities are detected on chest imaging.

Low-dose CT screening may be recommended for eligible high-risk individuals after assessment. One widely used evidence-based recommendation supports annual low-dose CT screening for adults aged 50–80 years with at least a 20 pack-year smoking history who currently smoke or quit within the previous 15 years, although individual eligibility should always be determined by the treating clinician and applicable local guidance.

Patients with suspicious lung lesions or enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes can undergo bronchoscopy, EBUS-guided sampling or other appropriate investigations to obtain a tissue diagnosis and guide multidisciplinary treatment planning.
