Treatment for Newborn Jaundice in Kochi

Jaundice is common in newborn babies and occurs when bilirubin builds up in the blood, causing yellow discolouration of the baby's skin and eyes. Although many cases are mild, some newborns require monitoring and treatment to prevent bilirubin levels from becoming excessively high.

Phototherapy

Phototherapy uses specialised therapeutic light to help the baby's body process excess bilirubin more effectively. Babies receiving phototherapy are monitored regularly to evaluate bilirubin levels, hydration, feeding and treatment response.

Exchange Transfusion

In selected cases of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia, when bilirubin reaches dangerous levels or does not respond adequately to other treatment, an exchange transfusion may be considered. This specialised NICU procedure is performed only when clinically indicated and requires intensive monitoring.
