Robotic central neck dissection may be performed as part of thyroid cancer surgery when cancer has spread, or is considered at significant risk of spreading, to lymph nodes in the central compartment of the neck.

The central neck contains important structures including the recurrent laryngeal nerves, parathyroid glands, trachea and major vascular structures. The enhanced magnification and precise movement provided by the robotic platform can assist surgeons in carefully removing the required lymphatic tissue while protecting surrounding structures.

Robotic central neck dissection is performed only when clinically indicated, with the extent of surgery determined according to the type and stage of thyroid cancer, imaging findings and multidisciplinary evaluation.
