Robotic Lateral Neck Dissection for Thyroid Cancer

Robotic lateral neck dissection is an advanced procedure performed in selected patients with thyroid cancer that has spread to lymph nodes in the lateral compartments of the neck. The objective is to achieve appropriate oncological clearance while using a remote-access robotic approach when clinically suitable.

The da Vinci Xi system provides high-definition 3D visualisation and articulated instruments that can assist surgeons in navigating the complex anatomy of the lateral neck, where lymph nodes are located close to important nerves, muscles and blood vessels.

The procedure is planned according to the location and extent of lymph node involvement, tumour characteristics and the patient's overall clinical condition. In complex thyroid cancer cases, treatment may involve coordination between endocrine surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, nuclear medicine specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
