The department provides evaluation for obstructive sleep apnoea and other suspected sleep-related breathing disorders. Symptoms such as loud habitual snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing during sleep, morning headaches, unrefreshing sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness may warrant specialist assessment.

Limited sleep studies can help identify abnormal breathing and oxygen patterns during sleep. Patients diagnosed with sleep apnoea may undergo CPAP titration followed by initiation of home CPAP therapy. BiPAP therapy may be recommended for selected respiratory and ventilation disorders based on specialist assessment.
