Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures. The Stroke and Cerebrovascular Care programme at Apollo Adlux Hospital, Kochi, provides rapid diagnosis and treatment for ischaemic stroke, haemorrhagic stroke and transient ischaemic attacks. Patients are assessed through an organised acute stroke pathway supported by neurological examination, advanced brain imaging and vascular investigations such as carotid Doppler. Eligible patients with an acute ischaemic stroke may receive intravenous thrombolysis, while selected patients with blocked brain arteries may be evaluated for endovascular stroke intervention.

Stroke care at Apollo Adlux Hospital extends from emergency treatment to structured recovery and long-term prevention. Our neurologists work closely with neuro-intervention specialists, critical-care physicians, radiologists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists to address weakness, loss of balance, speech difficulty, aphasia, dysarthria and swallowing problems following a stroke. Rehabilitation plans may include neurological physiotherapy, mobility training, speech therapy and swallowing rehabilitation. The department also provides multidisciplinary evaluation for paediatric stroke and guidance on controlling stroke risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and carotid artery disease.
