Selected thyroid cancers may be suitable for robotic-assisted surgery. Depending on the extent of disease, treatment may include robotic thyroidectomy with central or lateral neck lymph node dissection when clinically indicated. A total thyroidectomy removes the entire thyroid gland, while a hemithyroidectomy removes only the affected thyroid lobe. The appropriate procedure depends on the underlying condition, tumour characteristics, involvement of one or both thyroid lobes and the patient's overall clinical situation.

Not every patient is suitable for a remote-access procedure.
